3 Confirmed Dead in Ejisu-Konongo Highway collision
The Ghana National Fire Service has confirmed the death of three persons in a collision that occurred at New Koforidua off the Ejisu-Konongo Highway in the Ashanti Region on Monday, April 29.
According to the GNFS, the accident involves a Nissan Pick-Up with registration number, GN 1645-21, and a Mitsubishi Fuso Truck, GT 8794-W.
It said the accident resulted in significant damage to the Nissan Pick-Up and partial damage to the head of the Mitsubishi Fuso Truck.
“The road crash was reported to the Konongo Fire Station at 16:30 hours, and it left one (1) injured and three (3) dead. Their identities include a Ghanaian named Michael Obeng and two (2) suspected Indian nationals.” GNFS said in a post on its Facebook page.
The lifeless bodies of the deceased three were sent to the Stewards Morgue for preservation and further investigation.
The rescue operation, led by Sarpong Francis Boateng, commenced swiftly upon arrival at 16:48 hours, with emergency services deployed promptly to manage the aftermath.
The GNFS commended its men and personnel of the Ghana Police Service for their rapid response in rescuing the injured person.
Also on Monday, April 29, a fuel tanker exploded along the Kumasi-Accra Highway.
The tanker involved was a Man Diesel fuel truck, bearing the registration number GS 5343-18.
Despite the gravity of the situation, firefighters from the GNFS managed to contain the flames within a matter of minutes with three persons injured.
However, the cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
