Allegations that the government was involved in the unlawful recruitment of New Patriotic Party (NPP) members into different security services have been refuted by the Majority Caucus in Parliament.

Prior to this, the Minority in Parliament claimed that thirty of the slots had been allotted to NPP legislative candidates for enrollment in various security forces.

They assert that the purpose of the action is to influence the results of the upcoming general elections in 2024.

In a statement to the media on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, Patricia Appiaagyei, the deputy majority leader, refuted the Minority’s assertion, calling it an attempt by the caucus to sow discord against the government before the general elections.

“It is essential to emphasise that no parliamentary candidate or Member of Parliament has been allocated any recruitment slots into any of our security services.”

“These claims are not only false but are a desperate attempt by the minority to incite public disfavour against the government as we approach the 2024 general elections,” she said.

Additionally, the deputy majority leader encouraged the Minority to respect the public’s intellect and to desist from disseminating false information.

“Such actions could jeopardize our country’s peace and security and are beneath the dignity of our democratic processes.”

“We as the ruling party are steadfastly dedicated to justice, openness, and the rule of law. We will not be moved by these unfounded charges and will keep up our hard effort to guarantee everyone in Ghana is safe and secure,” Mama Pat said.
