Concerns have been raised by the Minority in Parliament on what it claims is a covert enlistment of New Patriotic Party (NPP) members into the security services.

The NDC MPs claim that their majority colleagues had assigned thirty slots to party members.

Speaking to the media in parliament, ranking member James Agalga of the committee on defense and interior and minority leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson revealed that continuing recruitment has not been properly advertised.

The two claim that the action is meant to jeopardize the security arrangements for the elections on December 7.

As a result, they have threatened to mount a strong backlash if the government moves forward with its demands for an immediate end to these recruitment.

The Minority also revealed that a petition has been filed asking the IGP to stop the secret action right away.

“It is in the interest of the NPP footsoldiers to act lawfully or face the full consequences of their actions and the wrath of our supporters.

“Just as the Minority protested vehemently against the politicisation of our security services through illegal recruitment in 2019, we once again demand that recruitment into all the security services be halted forthwith to allow for advertisements to be made with the qualification criteria duly spelt out.

“By so doing, we would have created equal opportunity for all Ghanaians who will then be selected on the basis of merit and not cheap partisan and nepotistic considerations.”
