In a bid to tackle the persistent issue of wandering cattle in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Security Council has initiated the formation of a dedicated task force.

During a recent press briefing, Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei-Mensah unveiled the proactive measure, aimed at reclaiming the city from the encroachment of these animals.

Speaking after inspecting newly planted trees as part of the Green Ghana Day initiative, Hon. Osei-Mensah emphasized the adverse impact of roaming cattle on the region’s greening efforts.

Recognizing the challenges in managing cattle, the Minister outlined plans for an external task force, to be compensated for their services, tasked with safeguarding the planted trees from cattle interference.

He assured that the allocated budget would cover the task force’s expenses for an initial one-year period, with the possibility of renewal contingent upon resource availability.

In his statement, Hon. Osei-Mensah emphasized the expertise required in handling such animals, highlighting the difficulty in apprehending them and the necessity of engaging skilled individuals for the task.

“We will enlist the expertise of those adept at handling cattle to execute this task. Their responsibility will be to ensure the preservation of the trees we’ve planted, free from any threat posed by roaming cattle,” he affirmed, underlining the commitment to sustaining the initiative beyond its initial phase, pending sufficient resources.
